Mind Meets Sea

Welcome to My Mental Health Blog

Hi, I’m Änki — and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.

This blog was born out of a time in my life when everything seemed to fall apart. I lost someone I loved deeply — a friend and partner — and not long after, I also lost my job. It felt like the ground beneath me disappeared. But in that darkness, I found something that still grounds me: the sea and my chosen family.

Swimming, surfing, coastal rowing — being near the water reminds me that healing isn’t linear. The tides come and go, just like emotions do. And slowly, through support, reflection and the sea breeze, I began to find myself again.

I have a PhD in Psychology and years of experience working in mental health — both professionally and personally. I’ve been a mental health patient myself. And I’ve seen just how dangerous misinformation can be. That’s why this blog exists: to bring you scientifically grounded, compassionate, and easy-to-understand content that actually helps — not harms.

Mind Meets Sea is a space for truth, for connection, for healing. Here, I’ll share research-backed tools for coping with life’s waves, personal reflections, and techniques that empower you to care for your mental wellbeing — whether you’re riding a high or hanging on in a low.

Thank you for being here. I hope what you find on these pages supports you, uplifts you, and reminds you: you are not alone.

With saltwater and science,
Änki
